So here is the Part 2 of the short series - working with PBR textures in Maxwell.
Now, this part is more general about setting up Image Based Environment and tweaking camera settings before we proceed to light set up and rendering.
Very basic, even essential concepts - but important ones to understand before you proceed any further.
Knowing how lights and cameras are working together in Maxwell is extremely important. Due to Maxwell's natural unbiased approach - everything is treated as a "light value" - which makes a lot of sense once you understand it.
Plus, those general principles will help you take a better pictures on your grandpa's camera :)
So go on and check it out - it's only few minutes.
PBR is massively popular this days. And, surprisingly, I've seen quite a number of forum threads with concerns on how to use those PBR Textures in unbiased render engines .. like .. Maxwell.
So here is my way of working with PBR Textures in Maxwell.
It's a series of quick tutorials showing my way of dealing with PBR textures inside Maxwell Render.
Specifically, the one above (and in the Video Gallery) - is about building single basic Maxwell Material for the entire model from only 4 texture maps.
In future videos I'll share my approach on image based lighting, camera settings, physical light setup and other things that you may find useful when working in Maxwell.
A little morning exercise :)
It's been pretty busy here these days.
Lot's of concepts, ideas and solved problems.
More updates soon!
..or and in case if you don't read on Aurek - it says "May The 4th Be With You"!
NiCE 2 SG is growing rapidly. At this point we almost done setting up our new office and ready to kickstart expansions with attracting even more talents for our core team.
It's great to be part of it!
On the other news,
I've extended my collaboration with amazing people from Next Limit!
And currently testing a few new bits of software from this amazing company.
My humble R&D journey with Substance and Maxwell is getting there. So far I've released already 7 free 3D models (uv mapped and textured) and a few packs of Maxwell materials - feel free to grab 'em all here.
And right now I'm in the middle for recording a short video tutorial. 🙌🏼
Back in May I've got a chance to join NiCE2 and open a new office here in Singapore.
It was quite a journey, finding the perfect place, dealing with contractors, furniture, equipment craziness and doing some pretty cool projects in parallel.
Juggling multiple projects, management gigs and administrative tasks together - is quite of a new experience for me. Now that I'm a Managing CD of NiCE2 Singapore for almost 4 months - I'm still thrilled, maybe even more than before.
Meanwhile, I've managed to squeeze some time during the weekends to finish a few more lightsabers.
Lightsaber 5 - Mace Windu
Lightsaber 6 - Darth Sidious
Feel free to grab both of these, and other cool stuff here
Here is a new addition to a Free Stuff section.
As always - Made in Maya and rendered with marvellous Maxwell Render!
Feel free to download and use as you desire.
Oh, and don't forget to check out Base Wood materials, those are pretty cool.
Great starting point for your very own custom wood materials.
Aaaand here is the new section - Free Stuff.
3D models, Maxwell Materials, Textures, everything that might be useful for those of us who is just starting in 3D industry.
Only free stuff, made by myself, so you guys are free to use it as you wish.
Finally - I'm done with the first half of my little R&D project combining Substance and Maxwell. This means that now I'm starting to prepare free MXM files, based on materials I used to build the look of those Lightsabers.
In the meanwhile I'm structuring the workflow for a write up to be published on Maxwell's website, so that it would be short and practical rather than 100 pages of description of me making mistakes and wondering about obvious things.
On the other side, I just got my Maxwell XPert certification renewed - That marks a year of me being part of a group of a really talented people. And that's pretty cool :)
And the most important thing that happened just recently ... I finally found a cookie I used to get in school .. back in the days. Man, I've spent almost 20 years trying to remember the name of that piece of sweetness to .. first to remind myself of that taste, and later on just because I had to remember .. you .. and there it is.
It's name was a "School Cake" .. .. school cake .. ..what ? :) who names a cake like that.
Well, anyway .. Wednesday.
